Teaching Star of the Future Award - Finalist Penny Day
Congratulations Penny Day, one of our finalists in the Teaching Star of the Future Awards!
Penny is an English teacher from Glenmoor and Winton Academies in Bournemouth who strives to make a real difference to her students.
She works hard to inspire her school community with the creative writing club she introduced, as well as being dedicated to supporting and motivating her students in class.
Penny says: "It was not the idea of imparting knowledge or of working with young people that particularly appealed to me so much as the idea of working within a national community to reduce the socio-economic inequalities that exist in our education system today...It’s a cliché but I wanted to make a difference and knew that, with Teach First, I would be doing just that in the areas where a difference most desperately needs to be made. "
Students clearly think a lot of Penny, some of the student notes she has received include:
"Dear Miss Day, Thank you so much for helping me in English and making all the lessons fun. You're the best teacher I've ever had." Maia
"I know you are not my teacher anymore but you were and still are my favourite teacher. Thank you for making me love English. I understand English a lot more. Thanks for being the best." Emily
