Teachers Building Society steps in to support Stockport school's NYC trip

May 20, 2011

33 students from Kingsway School in Stockport, a specialist school in Maths, Computing and Science, enjoyed a 5 day trip to New York this Easter wearing hoodies sponsored by Teachers Building Society.

The students each kept a digital diary of the trip that included visits to the Empire State Building, the American Museum of Natural History and Wall Street. A highlight for many of the students was seeing the New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in a nail biting 3 hour long face-off.

Teacher Andy Clarke says, “We are very grateful to Teachers Building Society for stepping in at the last minute to sponsor our hoodies after the late withdrawal from a local sponsor. These were much needed in the mixed weather conditions we experienced in New York. The trip was not only a once in a lifetime cultural experience but had a real ICT focus with the documenting of photos, videos and sound recordings that were later posted to a blog.”

Alan Gravett, head of sales and marketing at Teachers Building Society, a specialist provider of mortgages and savings for teachers, says “We’re delighted that the trip was such a success and were happy to support the school by sponsoring the hoodies. As a mutual organisation set-up for teachers, we have an obvious affinity with people in education and are currently planning on launching a range of finance education resources to help teachers with the important task of ensuring that young people better understand money matters.”
