Our environmental pledge
Reduce Paper Usage
Minimising the use of paper in the office, with double-sided printing options being set by default. Where possible the society will contact customers and migrate customer documents online, eliminating paper use. Working alongside local nature reserves the society will plant more than the number of trees used for printing year on year. Paper and card recycling bins will continually be provided across the office space, thus promoting recycling.
The society will promote eco-friendly merchandising, with compostable pens already replacing single use plastic pens. Bags for life available at request to all colleagues and members, promoting plastic reduction. Headed paper and induction booklets to be compiled of recycled paper. The society’s environmental pledge will be promoted and continually updated via TBS website and social media platforms. E-Christmas cards to be sent to partners to reduce further paper consumption. Marketing partners and suppliers will be required to provide information on their businesses environmental policies in conjunction with Due diligence.
Energy and water
Air con system and general office temperature to be managed at the discretion of the facilities department, managing and limiting our energy usage to only what is necessary. Energy and water providers to be queried in line with due diligence.
The society will reduce the need to travel, restricting to essential trips only and promoting the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing. The colleague benefit scheme will continually be reviewed, with cycle to work and car share schemes being offered where appropriate.
Maintenance and cleaning
General waste and recycling bins will continue to be provided to allow colleagues to split out waste in conjunction with local recycling companies to further improve the recycling of crisp packets, wrappers and office supplies. We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste. Any office refurbishments required will use local labour and materials where available to reduce CO2 as well as supporting the community.
The society will involve all colleagues in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance. The environmental committee will continue to meet bi-monthly to look at improving the workplace, and roll this out to colleagues. We will provide colleagues with relevant environmental refresher training annually, and all new colleagues will be provided an eco-friendly new starter pack built into their induction.
Colleagues will be offered the chance to partake in a variety of CSR environmental related activities throughout the year i.e. Tree planting, Beach Cleaning and other initiatives which will benefit the local community.
The social committee will reduce single use plastic items being used at events and will gift with purpose – eliminating single use plastic gifts and embracing the ethos of this policy. We will work with suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors to improve their environmental performance, and monitor through annual Due Diligence checks. The Society will continue to work alongside and build a partnership with Wimborne War on Waste and Litter Free Coast and Sea. A partnership with Dorset Wildlife trust will also commence in 2020, as Corporate Sponsors.
