Paul Winter appointed as Non-Executive Director

Jul 04, 2017

Teachers Building Society is delighted to welcome Paul Winter MBE onto its Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Paul Winter WebPaul joins Teachers following his retirement as CEO at Ipswich Building Society at the end of 2016. Paul led the Ipswich through the financial crisis during which time it grew strongly and significantly improved its profitability. A firm believer in the unique role of mutuals, Paul developed a strategy to build a strong connection between the Society and its members and also an important place in its community. This led to a number of awards for himself and the Society culminating in the award of an MBE in 2015 for his work in helping to develop the skills and employability of young people in Suffolk.

As well as his new role at Teachers Building Society, Paul is a Board member of the University of Suffolk, a Trustee of the Building Societies Association Pension scheme and has recently been appointed as Chair of the New Anglia LEP Skills Board. A keen runner, Paul has completed a number of marathons, most recently Boston.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul said “I am delighted to be joining the Board of Teachers Building Society. I hope my experience as a CEO in the sector can assist the Society as it faces the opportunities and challenges ahead. Teachers is a unique organisation with a very clear place in the financial services market. I am sure it has a very bright and strong future.”

Roy Spragg, Chairman of Teachers Building Society said, “I’m delighted to welcome Paul to Teachers and I’m certain he will strengthen the Board with his strong Building Society roots and in depth knowledge of working within a Building Society on a number of levels. I’m sure his knowledge will provide us with invaluable guidance on helping to meet the needs of teachers in England and Wales with mortgages and savings.”

Paul joins Roy and current Non-Executive Directors Ian Grayson, Andrew Lee and Alexandra Pike on the Teachers Board.
