The Phoenix Federation, a partnership of Park and Gosberton primary schools in Lincolnshire, has been named Outstanding Business Management or Financial Team at the annual TES Schools Awards.
Sponsored by Teachers Building Society, the award sought to recognise a team that has a commitment to excellence in the running and financial organisation of a school/s, ensures that resources are targeted where needed and also engages its entire community.
The team at Phoenix Federation has been instrumental in setting up and marketing a new kindergarten on the school site, already fully subscribed within four months of opening, and even breaks out of the office to help run after school clubs, support school trips and to share their skills in numeracy classes.
The panel of distinguished judges said, “It was impressive to see a team that had not only shown financial nous when faced with a complex set of challenges, but had really pitched in as part of the school community and had a wider impact.”
James Bawa, chief executive of Teachers Building Society, said: "We're delighted to have been able to sponsor this important new award and we congratulate the Phoenix Federation, and the other excellent nominees, for their hard work and dedication. With so much pressure on school budgets, the finance and business management of a school has never been more important and this award recognises the vital work carried out by the staff responsible for running a successful school and balancing the books."
