Teachers Building Society was founded in 1966 to help teachers onto the property ladder. This aim still holds true today, and we work hard to ensure that our products reflect the needs of teachers and other education professionals across England and Wales.
What makes us different is that we can help when others won't, and each one of our customers is treated as an individual, not a number. Our underwriting is bespoke and designed around our understanding of the working hours, pay system and employment contracts of teachers.
- We are proud to provide a truly personal service, whether dealing with our members directly or via mortgage intermediaries. This is why your call will always get straight through to a real person, never an automated phone system.
- We are committed to helping first-time buyers and have a long history of supporting the government's affordable home ownership schemes, such as Help to Buy and Shared Ownership.
- We are a mutual organisation run for the benefit of our members, not shareholders. This means that instead of having to pay dividends to shareholders, we can offer great deals to both our mortgage and savings customers.
- We frequently achieve recognition for the quality of customer care we provide, with recent accolades including being nominated for 'Best Local Building Society' for 5 years in a row at the What Mortgage Awards, finalists in the 2015 Rock Awards and finalists in the Moneyfacts’ Regional Lending Provider of the Year.
