The directors and staff at Teachers Building Society are deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Steve Sinnott, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers (NUT). Everyone who knew Steve held him in the highest esteem and regarded him as a committed and compassionate man.
James Bawa commented: ‘I had the honour of meeting Steve Sinnott many times during his time as General Secretary of the NUT. He was a dedicated leader and passionate about serving the teaching profession. I always found him to be an immensely likeable and generous man’.
Martin Reed, senior vice president of the NUT and non-executive director of Teachers Building Society, said ‘Steve will leave an enormous gap as a trade union leader, at home and in the world of education. He was committed to the international interests of all children and to the entitlement of all children to real life opportunities’.
