Carbon emissions are showing sharp rises of 2.5% per year*. Encouraging people to make their homes environmentally friendly and lower their carbon emissions, the Teachers Building Society has introduced a new loan offer for its customers who make green home improvements. Teachers Building Society (www.teachersbs.co.uk) has also offset its own carbon emissions following a new partnership with PURE - The Clean Planet Trust, the UK's first charity dedicated to combating climate change. Originally established by the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Teachers Building Society is an independent mutual building society providing competitive mortgage and savings products to the education sector.
Teachers BS will refund the further advance fee for loans taken out for installing energy efficient improvements. With a third of all heat in un-insulated homes being lost through walls, investing in improvements such as cavity wall insulation can help the environment as well as offering potential bill savings of up to £160 per year. This loan offer is available for the following: double glazing, cavity wall insulation, solar panels, condensing boilers and wind turbines. The fee refunded will vary from £99 to £499 depending on the scheme selected.
Concerned about playing its part in protecting the environment and promoting its green values to customers, the Teachers BS has been working towards increasing its environmental policy in the workplace. The Society already recycles materials such as paper, plastic cups, printing cartridges and unwanted IT equipment. It has also implemented electronic document storage to cut down on paper usage. The organisation's partnership with Pure, which enables businesses to offset carbon footprints and drive down industrial and transport C02 emissions, highlights the Society's commitment to helping the environment.
Mike Hislop, Teachers Building Society, commented: "Thanks to Pure we are now a carbon neutral organisation and we feel this is just the beginning of increasing our environmental business policy. We will now be encouraging our customer base of education professionals to get involved and think green!"
