Evergy Saving Tips

Incorporate these simple, low-cost energy saving measures in your home and you could reduce your household's carbon dioxide emissions dramatically:

Be draught proof
Easy-to-install brushes on your exterior doors and letterboxes eliminate draughts and wasted heat. Draughts creep in through the floorboards and skirting, too, so filling these gaps with waste paper or beading will keep you cosier.

Get down, thermostat
Turning your heating thermostat down by just one degree can have a big impact on your footprint and your bills.

Jacket your tank
An insulating jacket for your hot water tank only costs a few pounds but pays for itself in a matter of months.

Turn off
Switching off lights when you leave a room and unplugging appliances (or switching off plug sockets) when they're not in use saves money as well as energy.

Grow your own
Start growing your own vegetables and you'll love the savings, not to mention the taste.

Don't overfill the kettle
Only boiling the amount of water you actually need makes a real difference.

Curtain call
Closing the curtains at night helps to retain heat and opening them in the morning lets in natural light.

Bulbs that go the distance
Energy saving light bulbs last up to 10 times longer than conventional ones and use far less electricity.

Snuggle up
Use blankets and extra layers instead of keeping the heating on during those frosty winter nights.

A radiator boost
Placing foil behind your radiators reflects heat back into rooms.
